The ride from the airport to the hotel was incredible. The kids were screaming out when they recognized something or when they thought a motorcycle was going to hit us. I think the whole ride I had a smile on my face. They seem to really want to see a cyclo but we never found one on that ride. Thai was funny. He kept repeating that he did not remember Vietnam as being this hot. He said that Colorado is too cold and Vietnam is too hot.
We are staying at Somerset Ho Chi Minh City which is a beautiful luxury serviced apartments that can been rented by the day, month, or year. My mother rented it for our first week in Vietnam. We have a four bedroom apartment that has a spacious living room and dining room. Jason has spent nearly every day in the pool. It is a great place to be during your first days in Vietnam as it offers a welcome break to the confusion that awaits us when we leave this compound.
It has been wonderful visiting old friends and family. We had dinner with Vu, Anh Thu and their parents. Ken Kohler was even there. And the food was wonderful. We have seen Dat and Anh. Dat was happily showing off photos of his granddaughter. I can't wait to meet her. Thai's family has been over often. Several even camped out for a few days here. They often show up with lots of food and drinks for us. Thanks to them we have had a variety of fruits. Maya has spent a lot of time with her friend, Vicky. We have known Victoria and her family, the Keeners, for over 8 years now.
Our days have been filled with house hunting in Saigon South. It is where we want to live and looking for a house in that area has been difficult. There are no shortages of houses to look at but somehow finding them as been a challenge. We have worked with 5 realtors. The Keeners referred our final realtor, Ms. Sao to us. She was the charm as after 6 days of searching we found the house. It is a beautiful "half-house" or attached villa with 4 bedrooms. It has a nice garden and two trees with flowers in front. It is in walking distance to the kids school and to my shock, Curves as well.
